Diplomatic Immunity
2008
#1 Diplomatic Immunity: a primer for the enthusiast, 2002
(Beta SP. NTSC single channel video/ 9 minutes 30 seconds color/sound )

Via manipulations of time, gesture, and text, Diplomatic Immunity disarms the viewer creating a lightness through a seemingly endless stream of ‘Thank yous and back patting’ that is chilling when undercut by the slowly realized significance, via the end text, of the images and sound on the video. Oscillating between 1948 (archival footage) and 1994 (sound) "Diplomatic Immunity" examines the pomp and protocol practiced since the inception of the United Nations, coming to a head in the paralysis of the Security Council during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.

Diplomatic Immunity was awarded the Film Society of Lincoln Center's Grand Marnier top Award for Excellence in Video at the New York Film Festival, 2002.
